A Commendable Insomniac Performance

I didn’t quite rate Insomnia as a band par excellence, but all that changed on my last visit to Some Place Else. I guess practice makes perfect. I ended up going there on Wednesday night after a long hiatus and entered the place a little before midnight at the fag end of Hip Pocket’s performance.

So while we waited for Insomnia to setup on stage, I ordered a Barcadi Breezer and listened to the DJ trying his hand at mixing tracks. Let’s just say, he ought to stick to playing the great music he plays and leave it to the likes of Akeel to do that stuff.

Insomnia started their performance and about half past twelve and played some nice tracks which included a single from their maiden album. Half way through the show, it ended up become some sort of a request show and they did a lot of renditions of Pink Floyd tracks. Another one of their originals had me glued and I stayed right till past two am to hear them wind up their show to the few fans who were there till the end. Bodhi on the lead has come a long way and some of the licks are awesome. Add to that a bespectacled lead singer with well cropped hair adds to the flavour of the bands image. The other members are all active participants lending their voice when needed. All in all this is shaping up as a tight outfit that has the potential to leapfrog in a big way into the music scene nationally.
