When a Billy Goat Decides to Ride!

You roam the streets of Kolkata, or for that matter any city anywhere in the world, and you are bound to come across sights that are guaranteed to bring a smile to your face—or, on some days, have you rolling on the floor with laughter.

Today was one of those days.

I was in Beckbagan and had stopped outside a butcher's shop when I witnessed what can only be described as a scene straight out of a comedy film.

There, parked innocently outside the shop, was a motorcycle.

And sitting on it was a huge Billy Goat!

Now, I have seen goats doing all sorts of things. Eating practically anything within reach, wandering around like they own the neighbourhood, blocking traffic and occasionally giving pedestrians that look which says, "Yes, I live here. What's your problem?"

But this was a first.

This enormous Billy Goat had somehow managed to climb onto the motorcycle and had made itself completely comfortable. And when I say comfortable, I mean it had somehow curled itself up and seated itself on that ridiculously narrow motorcycle seat as though it had been riding motorcycles all its life!

I stood there staring at it, wondering whether I had just witnessed the beginning of a new goat-based transportation service.

The funniest part was the sheer confidence of the animal. No embarrassment. No nervousness. No concern about being caught in the act.

Just a goat, sitting on a motorcycle, looking perfectly at home.

I can only imagine what the owner of the motorcycle must have thought when he returned. Either he was going to be amused, confused, or perhaps mildly concerned about the condition of his seat!

This is precisely why I love walking around Kolkata with a camera. You never quite know what the streets are going to throw at you.

Sometimes it's a beautiful old building, sometimes an interesting character, sometimes a fleeting moment that disappears before you can reach for the camera.

And sometimes...

It's a Billy Goat taking a break on a motorcycle outside a butcher's shop!

Kolkata never disappoints.

You just have to keep your eyes open—and, preferably, your camera ready!
