Yesterday nearly 60,000-100,000 (variance due to official and unofficial figures) people of Kolkata headed to Espalnade in a solidarity march demanding justice for the atrocities committed in Nandigram. Spearheaded by film, theater and music personalities the march from College Square culminating at Esplanade where a peace rally was organised drew people in thousands. People from all walks of life and for the first time Kolkata witnessed a rally of such magnitude where Political parties usually show their strength in numbers by ferrying in cadres from the districts. Though I never got down to the rally and watched scenes of the turnout on Television, on my way back home though, I couldn't help capture a picture of a small public meeting of The CPI (M) on a street corner addressing the same issue. I say this is all fine, as long as these political parties don't call another Bandh.
