Day 1, Sept 1st, 06: Kolkata: A short ride to Amrit's place from mine; a 5-6 minute ride in a Yellow Ambi was Rs. 30. A short tour of Amrit's 23 Shakespeare Sarani palatial ancestral house and then a relatively traffic free ride (10-12 minutes in all) to our temporary office at 6 Fancy Lane. I met Kartik, a rather serious kind of young guy from ISB, who is looking after the Projects side of things.
Then we went to the ABP Head Office, a majestic building in the heart of the city, in probably one of the narrowest streets in Kolkata. Enamel White - and in the midst of all those dilapidated buildings, truly does make it a sight for sore eyes. Enter and I've never seen marble shine the way it does in the ABP office.
Met with HR, and then went for Lunch to Amber Restaurant - world famous for Biryani and stuff (check Lonely Planet for eateries in Central Kolkata). That was followed by a long afternoon on the streets of Kolkata looking for office space. That's when you start appreciating the streets in Delhi. This one way thing in Kolkata is crazy ya.
Anyway finally got back to office, sat around in the AC cabin, played around with Google Earth, pinpointed our various houses in Kolkata and wrapped up. The four Musketeers - Amrit, Jaideep, Kartik and I got into our white Company Ambi and Mishra ji drove us to our respective homes. That ride seemed to be the most painful, took a good 40 minutes to get home.
Then to climb up 5 floors; Yippie!
A light dinner and off to bed.
Am sure you realise, Kolkata just got the better of me on Day 1.
