Sunday Resolve

I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see this final picture of our Finches in their new Multi-layered Residence. Gosh they had separate zones and could now lay eggs and raise little finches without the fear of their babies being thrown out or bother of the others stealing hay and twigs from their nests.

The plan was to hit Galiff Street once again to get another cage or two for our Finches so that we could separate them in pairs. The other plan was to get a couple of Java Finches too.

When we woke up in the morning, an hour later than planned and I looked out from the Balcony, I saw that the entire colony was inundated. The night's downpour had the roads submerged under several inches of water, but this didn't stop us. My wife had made up her mind and we got ready, waded through the water and got on our way. So what if we were running an hour behind our original schedule.

I noticed that she had also taken some steel containers along in a white plastic packet. So I figured that we were going to stick to the original plan and have breakfast at China Town. It did make sense, after all we were going across town and since were going to that side of town, a visit to China Town made total sense. We got there, ordered the usual meatball soup and then the rain come down. We stood under the huge garden umbrella and had that hot soup while everyone around scurried to get their ware or themselves under some shelter from the downpour.

We had our soup and packed some to take back home and got back to our car when the rain tempered down to a drizzle. As we drove on to Galiff Street we noticed how a thick dark sky hung threateningly over us. As we too the left from Shyambazar towards Tala Bridge the heaven's opened up and down came a shower like it was making up for lost time. We parked the car and sat in it waiting for the rain to stop or at least simmer down as we watched people drenched from head to toe walk by. Even people under umbrellas seemed to be drenched from near waist down.

The wait was worth it on two counts; one that the rain did finally slow down and second that while sat there my wife noticed the sign on a shop across the road. It was hilarious.

We got under one umbrella and walked down Galiff Street in search of Java Finches and a suitable cage for our own Zebra Finches. After a bit of looking around, we narrowed in on a cage: it was the same size as our existing one, except that it had a removable splitter through the middle which was cool. We then went about our Java search and got prices ranging from Rs. 700 to 800 per pair. Man, these Java Finch prices are a bit steep. Anyway we went back to the old man to enquire about Java Finches and he gave us some good advice about them that dissuaded us from buying them immediately.

By the time we bought the cage and some bird feed and got back to our car, my wife and I were quite drenched, but happy with our newly acquired home for our Finches.

Mission "FinchityFinches" accomplished we headed to the next destination of the day.
