In the Middle of the Storm

Finally I have moved to a 5 day working week, which gives me the weekends to indulge in sheer “lukkhagiri” without the pressure of not realising when the weekend started and ended. So now I have Saturday for gallivanting and Sunday for more gallivanting.

I started the first week thus. I made a trip to Gariahat and weaving through some narrow lanes to Fab India. I had heard so much about their flagship store in Kolkata and decided it was finally time to pay the place a visit. Well it sure has a lot of stuff and I was surprised to see this once famous for khadi stuff place now was peddling wares ranging from furniture to food to beauty products. Diversification and branding sure has penetrated the ethos of our generation. Anyway I didn’t buy anything. There was just too much stuff packed into that place and was quite dizzying.

So after that a visit to Forum was on the cards. Out in the rain that was now coming down quite heavily, I decided to be brave and turned into a narrow lane that I hoped would lead to Forum. We geographically, Forum was in that direction and I would land up on some recognisable road that would eventually get me to Forum and I did. Once at Forum, some window shopping finally led to a purchase at Cotton World. I quite like their stuff; they’re simple, neat and trendy.

Anyway post that a long awaited visit to one of my favourite malls, Merlin Homeland. Of course with the promise to me that such weather warranted Momos and Thukpa. So Homeland proved to be another fruitful visit. A Bookshelf and a Wardrobe in the bag built up an appetite so I headed off to Elgin Road to savour some of that delicious food.

The mixed Thukpa is just fabulous at Momo Palace and top it off with gluttonous consumption of 12 momos and a Coke to wash it down made for a perfect way to end day one of the weekend. Well not quite. I topped it off with watching a rerun of The Filmfare Awards on TV. I haven’t watched TV in what seems like months.

Oh and the picture is something I clicked on the way out of Momo Palace. The Thunderstorm had led to the felling of this Traffic Signal Post and blocked of Elgin Road sending traffic into complete disarray.

The 7 Wonders at Eco Park

Pyramid & Sphinx Our last excursion to Eco Park in Rajarhat dates all the way back to February 2015. Since then, a myriad of transformations has swept through the park. During a recent journey to the airport, we caught sight of the park's latest additions, which had become the talk of the town, visible from Biswa Banga Sarani. That sighting ignited our decision to revisit the park. Naturally, we concurred that visiting on a weekend would be an exercise in chaos, so we opted for a weekday to fully savor the wonders that awaited us. To our surprise, even on a weekday, the park teemed with visitors. Upon entering Eco Park for a nominal fee of Rs. 30, we were immediately struck by the sheer value it offered. Personally, I would have willingly paid more for the privilege of glimpsing these marvelous creations. Rather than expound further, I'll let the images convey the essence of what lies within. HAL Heritage Centre and Aerospace Museum

I was in Bangalore and this was the only place I actually wanted visit. So here I am taking the tour of India's first aerospace museum located at the HAL facility (opposite the old Bangalore Airport) spread over 4 acres. The displays of actual aircraft are very cool and so are the galleries showing historical pictures and evolution of HAL and its contribution to the nation in Military Aircraft as well as Aerospace. The disappointing thing at the end of the tour was the Gift shop, where I was hoping to find Scale Models of Aircraft and other Memorabilia from the IAF (Indian Air Force), but instead it was a dreary sight to see a shelf which housed Handicrafts! That just didn't make any sense whatsoever. Vintage Car Show 2018 at The Tollygunge Club

1947 MG TC So here we are once more at The Tollygunge Club on a cold winter morning to catch some rare beauties to warm our hearts. I try to catch these every year if possible and after my recent trip and the number of cars I've seen on it, one would think I'd give it a miss. This year's collection had most of the usual cars with an addition of some more to the fray. What disappointed though was the limited number of super cars on display. But all that said, it's always a joy to see these wonderful gems still being cared for by their owners and offering us a glimpse into automotive history.
