The actual work starts with the various puja committees planning the puja in various localities in Kolkata, but the idol work starts on the riverbank at a place called Kumartuli. Clay extracted from the river takes form over hay figures through the hands of artisans moulding beautiful sculptures that adorn the Pandals and enthrall the masses that throng the streets of Kolkata over the 5 days of Durga Puja.
