Friends Music Festival

So with day one behind me and day two on my head, I was back at the venue by 2pm. Some sound checks were in order and through the afternoon Dohar and Bickram Ghosh and his musicians did their sound checks. The rest of the singers would just come and get on stage and get on with their acts. Well this did make me a bit nervous, but if that’s what they do, I figured that’s how they do it.

So while I waited and watched the first of the performers for day two, arrive I was back in the zone. We waited for a sizeable crowd to gather and finally opened the gates at about ten minutes to 6pm. This led to a slight delay in a start time and we got the show on the road to a near packed house. I guess it was worth the wait. Subhamita took the stage and gave a soft start to the day’s proceedings. Keeping in mind the time factor, we got Srikanto Acharya on stage shortly thereafter and after he had finished his gig, Lopamudra got the crowd swaying to her music. I had never seen Rupankar before, so when he took to the stage and started singing, I was quite impressed. After several songs, he got into the mood and picked up his guitar and gave the audience more than their money’s worth. This cost us dearly on the time front, but we weren’t complaining. To watch an audience lap up all that we had to offer was more than satisfying. Finally when Dohar took to the stage we were way behind schedule and as a gesture of keeping to the program schedule or whatever could be salvaged of it, Dohar only performed only three songs and exited the stage.

Of course once Bickram Ghosh’s Rythmscape came on stage all caution was thrown to the wind and the show went way beyond the stipulated time. We were fielding the half odd dozen policemen who were there urging us to wind up for the day. We kept humouring them and they also finally resigned to the fact that it was a fabulous show and since the audience was enjoying it so much, they might as well join in. So they all took up seats and watched the show till the end. We finally wound up nearer to 11pm.

Another day of the Friends Music Festival had drawn to a crescendo close and though the audience was nearly double of that of the first day there was no time to get lax. Day three was the most crucial. It was the climax of the Festival and was the prefect way to end. With the Bands!

The 7 Wonders at Eco Park

Pyramid & Sphinx Our last excursion to Eco Park in Rajarhat dates all the way back to February 2015. Since then, a myriad of transformations has swept through the park. During a recent journey to the airport, we caught sight of the park's latest additions, which had become the talk of the town, visible from Biswa Banga Sarani. That sighting ignited our decision to revisit the park. Naturally, we concurred that visiting on a weekend would be an exercise in chaos, so we opted for a weekday to fully savor the wonders that awaited us. To our surprise, even on a weekday, the park teemed with visitors. Upon entering Eco Park for a nominal fee of Rs. 30, we were immediately struck by the sheer value it offered. Personally, I would have willingly paid more for the privilege of glimpsing these marvelous creations. Rather than expound further, I'll let the images convey the essence of what lies within. That being said, it unquestionably merits an in-person visit to truly appreciate ...

HAL Heritage Centre and Aerospace Museum

I was in Bangalore and this was the only place I actually wanted visit. So here I am taking the tour of India's first aerospace museum located at the HAL facility (opposite the old Bangalore Airport) spread over 4 acres. The displays of actual aircraft are very cool and so are the galleries showing historical pictures and evolution of HAL and its contribution to the nation in Military Aircraft as well as Aerospace. The disappointing thing at the end of the tour was the Gift shop, where I was hoping to find Scale Models of Aircraft and other Memorabilia from the IAF (Indian Air Force), but instead it was a dreary sight to see a shelf which housed Handicrafts! That just didn't make any sense whatsoever. Anyway for those of you who would like to visit this wonderful Museum, the details are below: HF-24 Marut 1T (D1698) IAF MIG-21 Bison (Trainer Version) HAL HJT-36 Sitara (IJT), Intermediate Jet Trainer Prototype. HAL Tejas mock-up (LCA) Light Weight...
