We left Kolkata last night on the Amravathi Express. This train leaves Howrah Station at 11 PM at night and reaches Vasco Da Gama Station two days later in the morning. So the journey includes 2 nights and a full day on the train. Long some might say, but totally worth it. We’ve been watching the terrain change continuously. The train first goes down the eastern coastal area nearly up to Vizag and then cuts across the Andhra Pradesh and parts of Karnataka till it reaches Goa. The final leg of the journey through the Western Ghats was fantastic. It reminded me of our train journey from Vizag to Araku Valley. Anyway I was enjoying the view as we went over viaducts into tunnels and finally we came unto a place called Castlerock. This is when the excitement started.
Following this station was a station called Doodhsagar. Well as the name suggests, a Milky Waterfall and believes me it was. As the train was crawling along the winding tracks on the slopes Doodhsagar came to view. This magnificent Waterfall that was Milky White falling down a rock face of a steep hill side and as we stood bewildered, the most shocking thing happened. The battery in my camera died. This couldn’t be happening, we reach the most photogenic spot on our journey and my camera battery dies on me.
Well it was just up to my photographic memory to capture this and hope someday I make this journey again and come well prepared. It was time to call it a night and look forward to the sandy beaches of Goa now.
